WHAT WILL I TALK ABOUT IN group THERAPY?

Ideally, your life.  In weekly meetings, you will create clear goals, define and explore resistance, explore past and present relational themes and how each of these influences everyday life.

Engaging in any kind of therapy can be scary. Therapy often brings insecurities and questions to the surface:

  • Will my therapist or the group judge me?

  • Will the time and money I put into this help my problem?

  • What does it mean about me that I am going to therapy?

To ask someone to do therapy and risk vulnerability either individually, as a couple, or in a group can heighten the fear and questions already present. However, the reward is almost always worth the risk.

HOW MUCH DOES GROUP THERAPY COST?

Group Therapy costs $75/session

As long as a member is in the group, he/she is responsible for paying for weekly sessions whether or not he/she attends group.

Occasionally group will not meet.  Group participants will not be responsible for paying for sessions when the group does not meet.

Often the first and best step is scheduling an initial individual therapy appointment to process your interest or hope in joining a group

Yes. However this may be more difficult.  Jeff typically recommends 4-6 individual sessions before joining the group, and then 3-5 individual sessions after joining the group to have a clear place and opportunity to process the group experience (being vulnerable in the context of group, giving feedback, receiving feedback, etc.).

The two main focuses of group are 1) to learn to put your thoughts and feelings into words and 2) to explore the meaningful aspects of your life and relationships both inside and outside of the group.

My groups are not topical, so each individual is able to bring whatever they want to work on into the group.

Group Therapy does not necessarily have an end date. Members can leave the group at any time. Jeff encourages an initial 6 month commitment.

When it is time for a member to stop participating in the group, we ask that the member come and tell the group that they are leaving so that they and the group have the opportunity for closure.

The facilitators will not try to talk participants into to staying in the group when they want to leave.
